SCHOOL LIFE

PTA

The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) and the school work together to organise events and activities throughout the year for our school community. The highlights of each year are the Festa Junina celebrations in the first semester and the International Festival later in the year.

The main objective of the PTA (Parents and Teachers Association) is to promote integration and partnership among the school community. It aims to improve The British School and the services it offers to students, through the establishment of channels of communication among parents, teachers and the school administration. The PTA also promotes fundraising, cultural, social, sports and leisure activities and supports projects for the wider community.

PTA Contributions

The PTA has supported and organised a number of important events throughout the years, such as: Children’s Day; Tea 4 Teachers; International Festival; and Festa Juninas at Barra and Zona Sul.

The PTA also continued with its initiative to invite regular speakers to address audiences with various relevant topics. Annually, several talks are organised at Barra and Zona Sul sites.

The PTA has a number of sub-committees which aim to advise and support the school with various aspects such as nutrition and careers guidance by the utilisation of skills and experience of parents and alumni.

Finally, the PTA continues to embrace community service projects and supporting charities by holding regular book and uniform sales. Bake sales are also held weekly at Barra and monthly at Botafogo and have raised impressive amounts.

PTA Events

The PTA has also runs the school's Festa Juninas and International Festivals, and assists Class 11 students with their various Graduation events.

Festa Junina

The traditional Brazilian event of Festa Junina is celebrated at both Barra and Botafogo sites, usually in the month of June. These festivals were bright, lively and well-attended parties, featuring students from Pre-Nursery up to Class 11 performing traditional square dances; lots of fun games and food trucks. Staff, parents and students were able to enjoy the day together, and the event brought together the entire school community.

International Festival

This is a celebration of the school community’s diversity and is usually held in November. Several families within the school community adopt and promote numerous countries represented at the event. Each family shares different features of the culture of their chosen country. The International Festival has invited diplomats based in Rio, who give lectures on various topics about their home countries. Our Senior students have the opportunity to test and exercise their own diplomatic skills by acting as Young Ambassadors. It is always a great moment for all!

Gala Dinners

The PTA has established a tradition of supporting the Gala Dinners in December for the graduating Class 11 students, their families and school staff. Some teachers attend the event at the generous invitation of the PTA. The Gala Dinner provides an unique opportunity for students, parents and teachers to celebrate successes and the journey they made together throughout the school.
