The Duke of Edinburgh Expedition took place from 8th to 10th March and for the very first time involved three patrols of Bronze, Silver and Gold levels trekking separately.
The Bronze group completed the traditional circuit in two days from Abraão to Das Palmas, Caxadaço and back to Abraão. The Silver group trekked out to Parnaioca and returned via Caxadaço and Das Palmas and the Gold group did the same with an extra day’s trek to Saco do Ceu, finally returning to Abraão.
The distances covered ranged from approximately 25km to 60km through very demanding terrain and changeable weather. I am pleased to say that all students completed their circuits and I was especially impressed with the newcomers to the award scheme from Class 8 who completed their route very strongly and with great enthusiasm.
We were pleased to welcome Miss Harry Davies, Mr. David Noon and Mr. Martyn Prosser to the British School expedition. They bring many years D of E experience with them and we look forward to their continued participation in future expeditions.
The next expedition will be in August, walking the Trilha do Ouro across the Serra da Bocaina and once again will be open to all levels with the aim of trekking 60km in three days. Get your Band Aids ready !
