Mr Nick Walker, Chairman of the Board
I would like to wish all students, teachers, staff, parents and supporters of TBS the very best for the holidays. This year appears to have flown by-but then every year seems to do that nowadays. As you all know, Mr. Paul Wiseman is leaving TBS at the end of the year and there have been many tributes and celebrations as term draws to an end. We cannot say enough about the progress and achievements TBS has made under Paul's excellent and enthusiastic leadership. Paul will always remain close to our hearts and minds even if no longer on the premises. The new Director, John Nixon is due to arrive in Rio at the beginning of December and will be seen about the sites meeting you and getting to know TBS. Welcome John!
By the time of publication, the new British School Association will almost be up and ready to run. This is a project that is close to Paul's heart. The Association is intended as a conduit, to focus our efforts and aggregate our resources, as TBS interacts with the wider Rio community. In 2011 TBS passed the two thousand student mark. We are perhaps the largest British School now in Latin America. As such, our ability and responsibility to make a difference in the community becomes more important. More on this when we return in 2012.
Finally, I would like to thank all the Board members and committee members that gave so much of their free time this year to help TBS. I would also make a special thanks to the family of Andrew Bott, a fine man who gave many hours to TBS as a Board member, and who passed away suddenly in the prime of his life this October.
