Christine McNeal, Director of Music
Welcome to the Music Department. All the staff at the British School are working hard to ensure our students have a very musical education.
Curriculum
The curriculum is divided the following areas:
Foundation Stage (Pre-Nursery to Reception)
Key Stage 1 - Infants 1 and 2
Key Stage 2 - Classes 1-4
Key Stage 3 - Classes 5-7

All students learn a combination of performance, composition and listening skills with the emphasis on practical work. We have had some outside specialists come to work with our students including the Pimpolhos Samba School and Mixed Company singing group from Yale.
Instrumental Lessons
If you are interested in your child learning an instrument through our very active Extra Curricular Programme, please contact our ECA Coordinator, Julio Costa: jcosta@britishschool.g12.br
Music Clubs
We have a range of clubs offered at lunchtimes for students to join in with. These include an upper primary instrumental and singing club, Steel Band, Rock Bands and Staff and Student Choirs. If you are interested in joining any of these clubs please ask your music teacher for information.
Music Events
We have a large number of events throughout the year, including Founder’s Day, Class Presentations, Urca Music Evening and the Carol Service. The dates for these events can be seen on the school calendar. Please come along to support your child in these events and to enjoy the huge amount of talent that we have in the school.
