CAS is an integral part of the IB Diploma programme and all students in Class 10 and 11 are required to take part. The principle behind CAS is that education is not just about classrooms, information and study. IB students should have an opportunity to develop their attitudes and values and be able to test these against practical experience, corresponding to eight CAS learning outcomes.
CAS should challenge students in ways they have never experienced before. IB students should use their experiences and skills to give their time freely to those in need in some form of service. This will allow students to see something of the satisfaction to be gained from helping others. They are also required to reflect on their experiences and various stages of their IB programme and record their feelings in the form of a dairy.
