Margaret Mee, born near Chesham, Buckinghamshire,
England on 22 May 1909, was one of the 20th century's most
accomplished botanical artists and also a conservationist.
Margaret Mee studied the Amazon flora and her drawings were
executed whilst on location. Her many paintings, over 400
in total, were sketched in pencil and then painted with gouache.
Many of the species that Mee was able to paint in their natural
habitat had not been identified before. Margaret Mee died
tragically in an automobile accident in Leicester, England
on 30 November 1988.
