Welcome to the Urca Site – Zona Sul Unit. Since the year 2000, the Urca site has grown and matured into a thriving Senior School. Our Whole School Vision, Mission and Philosophy are shared and well understood. Our strong links with the other campuses, particularly Botafogo, ensure that there is continuity and consistency in the way we learn. While we cater for a range of different needs amongst our learners, we aim to help all of them fulfill their potential and, over the last decade, we have seen IGCSE and IB results improve significantly to the point where we now enjoy a high level of academic performance year after year.
At the same time, we believe passionately that education goes well beyond the classroom, and we are proud to offer a varied and exciting co-curricular programme that is designed to produce well-rounded, confident and responsible citizens, something that is essential in a fast-moving and socially-demanding world. This includes our Model United Nations, The Duke of Edinburgh International Award scheme, our Arts Programme, Sports, and many other co-curricular activities, including community work. Year after year we see that students who immerse themselves in these activities are often the most successful academically.
The pressure of preparing for university entrance in Brazil or overseas can be daunting, and so we have a highly experienced team of advisors to support students and their parents in the application process. Every year we are proud of the achievements of students from The British School as they graduate; they go on to a wide range of universities, including leading Russell Group universities in the UK such as Cambridge, Imperial and LSE, Ivy League universities in the USA as such as Harvard, Princeton and Yale, and of course a number of Brazilian universities, too.
I hope you find that this brief introduction gives you a flavour of the opportunities you can expect here at Urca, and I would be delighted to show you around if you would like to make an appointment to visit us.
