From the Head of the Barra Unit – Paul Wiseman Campus

Welcome to the Barra Unit – Paul Wiseman Campus – of The British School, Rio de Janeiro. The Barra site is the newest of the three sites that comprise The British School, Rio de Janeiro. The site was founded in 2003 and was originally located in Recreio. In 2006 the school moved to its present location in Barra da Tijuca. Starting with just seven students, over the past ten years the number of students at Barra has grown steadily and today there are nine hundred students on campus. The Barra Unit has both Primary and Senior sections and has children ranging from Pre-Nursery to Class 11.  2014 will see the first graduating cohort of students.

The Paul Wiseman Campus is relatively spacious and open lending itself to a calm but purposeful atmosphere. There is a friendly ambiance to the Barra site and visitors are often impressed by the warm welcome they receive from the children as well as from staff.

The curriculum offered at Barra is the same as that offered on the Zona Sul Unit. In Primary we follow the International Primary Curriculum and in Senior School we follow Key Stage 3 of the British National Curriculum, International General Certificates of Education and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme; as well as the Brazilian Curriculum for all age groups. Although, a relatively new site, Barra has already achieved very good results at IGCSE and has high academic aspirations for its students. In conjunction with the academic curriculum, Barra offers a full range of Extra Curricular Activities and a PSHE programme.

I should like to take this opportunity to once again offer you a very warm welcome to The British School and to the Barra Unit.

Kind regards,

Robert Franklin
